About

I spent a good part of my childhood in my Yaya’s garden. As a little girl, she grew everything! From vegetables to roses to ferns and even had a banana tree. She had so many plants growing on her oasis of a back yard. I was allowed to snack on anything I wanted and I never went home hungry while playing on the upper slope. She was amazing when she had the ability to garden and was considered a master gardener.

Unfortunately, her memory is failing, making it so she can no longer remember how to garden. Even a simple transplant of seedlings can be too confusing and frustrating for her. Alzheimer's can be a very traumatic and frustrating disease. So it is my goal in 2017 is to make her world as beautiful as my limited gardening knowledge will allow me. She is 95 years old and deserves to be surrounded by the things she loved so much and had been such a big part of her life.

I am far from the master gardener my grandmother had been. I started this blog to share my gardening experiences and to record what I find works for me. I invite and encourage comments and advice. I also hope that I can inspire others to try gardening and find happiness in it like I am.
